NEW DELHI: Despite Presidentelect Donald Trump's threat to car companies that they must manufacture in America or face heavy taxes, Ford has decided to go ahead with export of India-made Eco Sport SUV to the US, saying the move is part of a “broader business decision, including several parameters, costs“.

The company had said in November last year that export of Eco Sport -made at Chennai factory -will begin from 2018. But Trump's focus on boosting manufacturing in the US has rattled many car makers.

Ford Motor Co on Tuesday confirmed that it would be less profitable in 2017 than last year, even as cross town rival General Motors Co on the same day gave a much more upbeat forecast that surpassed Wall Street expectations.

Ford, the second largest U.S. automaker, affirmed that it was on track to deliver about $10.2 billion in adjusted pretax profit in 2016, matching a forecast it gave previously.

Ford India today posted over two-fold increase in total sales at 23,470 units in December 2016, driven by overseas shipments.

The company had sold 10,865 units in the same month of 2015, Ford India said in a statement.

New Delhi: The Competition Appellate Tribunal (Compat) on Friday found car manufacturers Ford India Pvt. Ltd, Nissan Motor India Pvt. Ltd and Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd guilty of anti-competitive conduct in the spare parts market, ruling that there could not be any restrictions on the supply of spare parts.

Compat, in the process, upheld a 2014 order of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) pertaining to 14 car makers, including the three companies cited above.

Ford India on Thursday reported a 22.19% growth in total sales at 21,004 units in November this year, driven by overseas shipments.

The company had sold 17,189 units in the same month of last year, Ford India said in a statement.

Ford Motor Co on Thursday lowered the 2017 pretax profit forecast for its financial services arm by $300 million due to lower auction values for used vehicles in the United States.

The company now expects Ford Credit to record a pretax profit of about $1.5 billion in 2017.

Ford is ready with the 2017 EcoSport and will unveil the sub-compact SUV on 14th November, 2016 in Los Angeles, California. The company presently manufactures the EcoSport in India as well as in countries including Thailand, Brazil and Russia. With production expected to start in India, Ford could export the 2017 EcoSport to different parts of the world, especially the USA. The 2017 Ford EcoSport will be based on Ford's global B-car platform, the company's sub-compact car platform, which also underpins the Fiesta, Ka and the B-Max.

US auto major Ford on Tuesday announced the setting up of its new research and development centre at a cost of Rs 1,300 crore.

Ford's Executive Chairman Bill Ford made an official announcement regarding the investment plan in Chennai.

Ford India today reported 7.94% growth in total sales at 22,043 units in October this year, riding on its overseas shipments.

The company had sold 20,420 units in the same month of last year, Ford India said in a statement.

Ford Motor Co and General Motors Co have worked all year to convince investors that they are no longer prisoners of the US auto market cycle and have solid plans to fend off challenges from Silicon Valley interlopers.
