New Delhi, Aug. 25 (PTI): The stalemate between the Coal India management and the labour unions over salary increase has ended after both sides reached an understanding.

"We have reached an understanding with the Coal India management for a 20 per cent minimum guaranteed benefit," D.D. Ramanandan, general-secretary of the Citu-affiliated All India Coal Workers Federation, said.

Coal stocks at some private thermal power plants, which receive the fuel from Central Coalfield Ltd (CCL), have reached precarious levels as CCL is said to be supplying more fuel to NTPC power plants. According to industry sources, this is due to the shutdown of Dhanbad-Chandrapura railway line, which has compelled Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) to shift 8-10 rakes from its supply to CCL.

KOLKATA: Coal India Ltd (CIL), which produces 84 per cent of the country's total output of the mineral, has planned to invest Rs 8,500 crore as capital expenditure in 2017-18, its latest annual report said.

"The capital expenditure for the year 2017-18 has been set at (Rs) 8,500 crore," the miner said in its annual report.

KOLKATA: Coal India will shut nearly 100 unprofitable mines over the next two-three years.Of this, 37 will close operations this year. Last year, Coal India closed down over 15 mines. A recent study showed that about 15 mines are highly profitable and 90 others can be made profitable.

“We have engaged Indian School of Mines and expertise of Singareni Collieries to chart out a roadmap for the set of 90 mines,“ a company executive said. “They would submit their study soon on the basis of which we would either merge a few of these mines with existing ones or change the method of operations in these mines.“

KOLKATA: Coal India's e-auction of coal sales was up by around 32 per cent to 32.7 million tonne during the first quarter of FY 2017-18.

"The PSU coal mining behemoth has booked 32.7 million tonne of coal through different e-auction schemes during April-June 2017 against 24.8 million tonne in the same quarter in the previous fiscal, an increase of 7.9 million tonne," a CIL official told PTI.

KOLKATA: State-run Coal IndiaBSE -0.34 % Ltd (CIL) has invited applications from independent power producers to take part in the auction of coal linkages under the Scheme for Harnessing and Allocating Koyala Transparently in India (Shakti), a notice said on Monday.

The miner asked "interested entities" to register on the website of auction firm MSTC Ltd "on or before August 7, 2017".

Coal India executives said a divestment would now be considered next year, if the share price improves.

With the third tranche of linkage auction on the anvil, the coal ministry now wants to adopt a flexible mode of transportation using both the roadways and railways for easy evacuation of coal. Following the second tranche of linkage auction in which Coal India (CIL) offered 15 million tonnes, the miner could not conclude the fuel supply agreements since there were supply constraints from Mahanadi Coalfields (MCL), South Eastern Coalfields (SECL) and Central Coalfields (CCL).
