NTPC denies interest in Tilaiya ultra mega power plant following Reliance Power’s exit

State-owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has denied any plan to step into the 4,000-mega watt (MW) Tilaiya ultra mega power plant (UMPP) in Jharkhand after Reliance Power pulled out of the project citing undue delays in acquiring land for the project.

NTPC has clarified that it was not interested in taking over the project contrary to the prevailing “wrong impression that NTPC is very keen to step into the Tilaiya project”.

The mega power project of the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) coming up in Lara of Raigarh district had landed in trouble with people from nine villages resorting to agitation over rehabilitation.

Country's largest power producer, the NTPC is setting up a 5X800 MW Super thermal Power Project at Lara in Raigarh District of Chhattisgarh. The project is based on super critical technology. The coal requirement will be met from Talaipalli Coal Block of Mand Raigarh Coalfields.

The Industrial Training Institute (ITI) set up by country's largest power producer, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), in Korba was inaugurated to start the academic activities from the coming session.

The ITI had been set up by the company in the vicinity of the NTPC Korba power station. Built over an area of 10 acres at Chorbhati village near Korba, the company took up the project as part of Community Development initiatives.

Infrastructure firm Larsen & Toubro has bagged a Rs 5,580—crore contract from state—run NTPC for setting up a thermal power project at Khargone in Madhya Pradesh.

“Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has secured a turnkey order from NTPC for setting up a 2x660 MW greenfield thermal power plant in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh on EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) basis, ” the company said in a statement.

New Delhi, March 29: NTPC, the country's largest power utility, plans to set the ball rolling for its twin foreign forays - a 1,320MW power plant at Bagerhat in Bangladesh and a 500MW unit in Sri Lanka.

"We have been powering India's drive to growth and are now working to help drive Asia's growth. We intend to complete the Bagerhat plant by 2018 and will step up work on the Sampur coal project (Sri Lanka)," NTPC chairman Arup Roy Choudhury said in an interaction with The Telegraph.
