As part of the plan to become India’s biggest renewable energy producer, National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is looking at buying stake in government’s Miniratna company – SJVN Ltd.

SJVN is a joint venture of government of India and government of Himachal Pradesh to generate clean electricity through hydro and wind power projects. The central government holds 64.46% stake in the company, followed by 25.51% held by the government of Himachal Pradesh and the balance 10.03% by public.

State-run power giant NTPC has exceeded the target of generation capacity addition of 11,920 MW set for the 12th Plan (2012-17) by adding 12,840 MW.

NTPC Group's power generation capacity has increased to 49,943 MW so far in the plan period, which would end on March 31, 2017.

NEW DELHI: State-run power producer NTPC today said it has commissioned 20 mega watt (MW) of Bhadla Solar Power Project in Rajasthan.

"We wish to inform that 20 MW of Bhadla Solar Power Project has been commissioned. With this, the commissioned capacity of Bhadla Solar Power Project, NTPC and NTPC group, has become 205 MW, 41,927 MW and 48,893 MW respectively," NTPC said in a BSE filing.

State-run power giant NTPC has recorded highest ever annual cumulative gross power generation of 263.95 BU (billion unit) so far this fiscal surpassing the 262.42 BU achieved in the entire 2015-16. The power producer has registered an annual growth of 4.71 per cent over last year, an official said. NTPC pit head coal stations, having capacity of 25,840 MW, recorded day plant load factor (PFL) or capacity utilisation of 95.71 per cent on March 16, 2017 and cumulative monthly PLF of 91.4 per cent till date. As many as 29 units of NTPC coal plants have generated a PLF of more than 100 per cent on March 16, 2017.

Now, the company is scouting for consultant to prepare a feasibility report for North West Quarry of its Pakri Barwadih coal mine, as per its tender notice.

NEW DELHI: State-run NTPC's Power Management Institute will soon impart training to state discom staff across the country for capacity building under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS).

The IPDS' objective is 24x7 power supply for consumers and reduction of AT&C losses.

Power Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday said that NTPC should not spend any more on renovation of plants which are older than 25 years. “The replacement of NTPC plants older than 25 years to cost Rs 4 crore/MW. NTPC should be allowed to sell surplus power to exchanges,” the minister told BTVi. Recently, NTPC decided to shut down old polluting power plants of capacity totalling roughly 11 GW and replace those with new ones which are highly efficient.

State-run power giant NTPC on Wednesday registered a lower 7.5 per cent net profit at Rs 2,468.72 crore for the third quarter compared to a year ago due to higher fuel cost.

The company spent Rs 12,080.43 crore towards fuel in the quarter ended December 2016 as against Rs 10,580.28 crore in the same period in 2015.
