At a time when tech giants are surreptitiously trying to appease users by showing more concern towards notching up the security and privacy laws amid the state of commotion over the extent of access to the private data, Amazon, on the other hand, may have other plans to further intrude into the data reserve of its users.

New Delhi: Top companies including Amazon and Coca-Cola may lease Indian Railways’ goods sheds, located in prime areas in big cities, and turn them into mechanized warehouses for their logistics networks.

Around 50 such railway goods sheds out of 300 located across India will be leased out to private companies on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis in the first phase by Indian Railways (IR) to help shore up its revenue.

American e-commerce major Amazon has formally entered the battle for Flipkart, a move that may slow down rival Walmart’s effort to buy a controlling stake in the Bengaluru-headquartered firm. Sources indicated that Amazon, which aggressively competes with Flipkart in the India market, has put in a matching bid along with a $2-billion breakaway fee. While a competing bid could possibly raise Flipkart’s valuation, thereby helping investors, Walmart is learnt to be determined to strike a deal with India’s e-commerce poster boy.

US online retail giant Amazon has made a formal offer to buy a 60 per cent stake in India's leading e-commerce marketplace Flipkart, according to a report by CNBC TV18 which cited sources.

Amazon's offer to acquire a majority stake in Flipkart comes at a time when rival Walmart is close to completing a $12 billion deal to pick up an equivalent amount of stake in the Indian firm.

BENGALURU: Amazon’s international losses jumped 29% to $622 million for the quarter ending March 2018, as against $481 million for the corresponding period in the previous year. The web retailer’s year-on-year losses from its global business continue to rise largely due to its India investments.

Amazon is continuing to pepper India with its warehouses, announcing the opening of five new fulfillment centres, which will be ready in the next six months. This comes at a time when logistics and warehousing is becoming one of the most important investments for e-commerce companies in the country.

To be located in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Vijayawada and Kolkata, the five new centres will serve Amazon's core e-commerce business and will take the total number of warehouses of the company in the country to 67.

Bengaluru: Even as Walmart Inc. inches closer to a deal to buy a majority stake in Flipkart, the board of India’s largest online retailer will keep Amazon as an alternative suitor in case the proposed sale to Walmart falls through, two people familiar with the matter said.

Amazon.com Inc expects groceries and household products to account for over half of its business in India in the next five years, as it moves to broaden offerings in the segment and foray into areas such as fresh produce.

Amit Agarwal, the India head of Amazon, said in an interview on Friday that groceries and goods such as creams, soaps and cleaning products, were already the largest product category on Amazon in terms of number of units sold in India.

We have just learned that the median salary of employees at Amazon.com Inc. is $28,446, excluding its chief executive officer and founder, Jeff Bezos. That pitiful number raises an intriguing question: Is Amazon a high-paying tech company or a low-wage retailer?

Bengaluru: Amazon India is the fastest growing marketplace in India and the most visited site on both desktop and mobile in the country, according to Amazon founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Jeff Bezos.
