South Korean auto major Hyundai Motor Company has acquired a stake in Indian self-drive car-sharing company Revv for an undisclosed sum. Hyundai’s investments in India’s car-sharing platform follows similar investments made earlier during the year by Ford as well Mahindra & Mahindra in Zoomcar. M&M had invested close to Rs 175 crore for a significant minority stake in Zoomcar.

South Korean automaker Hyundai on Monday announced a partnership with self-drive car-sharing firm Revv in the country.

The partnership entails development of an innovative car sharing service and conducts creative marketing activities in India, the auto major said in a statement.

The country’s second-biggest carmaker, Hyundai, showcased its India-centric electric sedan concept car Ionic at the Auto Expo 2018, held in Greater Noida in February this year. Now, the South Korean automobile giant is reportedly planning to bring an electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) and sedan to India, according to a news report in the Economic Times.

Sales of passenger vehicles in July by the country’s top two manufacturers Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai Motor skidded with the former seeing a decline of 0.6% compared with the same month last year and the latter seeing an incremental growth of 1.1%. However, the automakers said this was due to the recalibration done last year in the run-up to the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST) and had nothing to do with the underlying sentiments in the market and would normalise from August.

Hyundai, which makes three SUVs—Creta, SantaFe and Tucson—is planning to add more products, specifically under the sub four-metre category. “We have a small SUV Creta; may be later, we may have a micro SUV also.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said it will launch an electric SUV by H2 2019 under the CKD format. The company hinted that it may look out for collaboration with like-minded partners, as the cost in developing an EV in India will be high and hence collaboration.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMI), the Indian subsidiary of Korean automaker Hyundai Motor, plans to increase its Sriperumbudur facility's capacity by 37,000 units to 750,000 units.

Located near Chennai and spread over 535 acres of land, the plant is running at almost 100 per cent capacity utilisation. Its current capacity of 713,000 units will be expanded to 750,000 by 2019.

Hyundai India, which turns 20 this year, is looking to ride on nostalgia to reconnect with consumers. From the launch of ‘family car’ Santro in 1998 that redefined the compact hatchback segment with its tallboy design, to its current portfolio of vehicles, the OEM is looking to transition from a mass brand to a modern, premium one.

Korean carmaker Hyundai, the second-biggest player in the Indian market, will drive into a $100-million (Rs 6.9 billion) corporate office in Gurgaon. The two-acre office complex on the outskirts of Delhi is under construction and will be home to about eight hundred company executives from early 2020.
