Markets continue to rally, Sensex regains 33,000-mark

NEW DELHI: The markets on Friday took off from the launchpad of yesterday's positive sentiment as Sensex gained almost 200 points in initial trade.

30-share BSE Sensex gained 84.99 points to start trading on 33,034.20 and 50-share NSE Nifty opened on 10,198.45, up by 31.75 points. In early trading, both indices were gaining more than half a per cent.

The benchmark Sensex staged a strong comeback in early trade today gaining over 149 points on widespread buying by participants amid positive Asian cues.

The 30-share index was trading higher by 149.05 points, or 0.46 per cent at 32,746.23. All the sectoral indices led by capital goods, power, oil & gas and PSU were trading in the green with gains of up to 1.20 per cent.

NEW DELHI: Leading bourse National Stock Exchange (NSE) may have to file fresh draft papers with markets regulator Sebi to float an initial public offering after getting clarity on the co-location matter. However, the current preliminary IPO papers, which were filed with Sebi in December last year, will remain open, the exchange said.

The IPO is expected to be one of the biggest in recent times, with an estimated size of over Rs 10,000 crore, merchant banking sources said.

Earnings for companies in India's broader NSE Nifty rose at their best pace in six quarters during July-September, according to Thomson Reuters Eikon data, showcasing how profits are finally looking up after a prolonged spell of sluggish growth.

Net profits for companies in the index rose by an average of 11.9 percent in the September quarter, the biggest gain since a 31 percent expansion in January-March 2016, data available for 25 companies in the index showed.

Lakshmi Vilas Bank has dipped 6% to Rs 170 on the BSE in intra-day trade after the private sector lender fixed rights issue in the ratio of 1:3 i.e. one rights equity share for every three equity shares held by the eligible shareholders on the record date.

The bank has fixed December 06, 2017 as the record date for the purpose of rights issue of equity shares. The stock will turn for ex-rights on December 05, 2017 on the BSE and NSE.

Equity benchmarks on Friday were off to a good start as the BSE Sensex were trading beyond 33,600. Nifty also opened in the green and were gaining at 0.20 per cent in early trade. At 9:51 PM, Sensex was 88.54 points up to trade at 33,675.57 while Nifty was trading at 28.70 pois to reach upwards at 10,377.30.

In what could be a power packed comeback from last week's drag trade, key indices have finished with gains for the last six successive sessions.
