Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club plays football (soccer) in the Scottish Premier League. The club, also known as Inverness CT or Caley Thistle, plays home games in the 7,000-capacity Caledonian Stadium. In 2005, Mike Smith, formerly with the UK Basketball League, was appointed as the first ever Chief Executive in the club's history. Craig Brewster, although still on the roster as a player, performs the team's managerial duties. The club was formed in 1994 by the merger of Caledonian FC and Inverness Thistle FC. The club was originally called Caledonian Thistle but changed its name in 1996.
