Hitachi Displays manufactures LCD products in a variety of sizes. Its LCDs are used in a range of applications, including TVs, computer monitors and notebook displays, cell phones, and digital still cameras. The company also produces LCD components, such as drivers, color filters, and back lights. Hitachi has been making LCD modules since 1975. Originally known as the Mobara Works of Hitachi, Hitachi Displays was established in 1943. Hitachi spun off the display business as a separate unit in 2002. The company owns half of IPS Alpha Technology, a maker of LCD TV panels. In 2008 Hitachi sold nearly half of Hitachi Displays to Canon and Panasonic (formerly Matsushita Electric Industrial).
