Victory turns its consumers into winners -- or at least helps them look like winners. Victory Corporation, operating through its Virgin Cosmetics Company and Virgin Ware apparel outlet, distributes Virgin Vie cosmetics and toiletries. The company operates about 15 retail and outlet Virgin stores (some of which have in-house spa treatment facilities) in the UK. However, most sales are generated directly from its some 12,000 home-based sales consultants. Victory also operates a retail web site and catalog. Founded in 1997, the company launched its own clothing line in 2005. It was publicly traded on the London AIM until 2007, when it was delisted.

Wahl Clipper Corporation company manufactures and markets electric hair clippers, massagers, beard trimmers, and accessories. Having traditionally sold to the professional market, Wahl also sells its products through popular nationwide retailers, including Wal-Mart, Fry's Electronics, Longs Drug Stores, Target Corporation, Ulta, and Bed Bath & Beyond, among others. The family-run firm, founded in 1919 by Leo Wahl, celebrated its 90th year in business in 2009. Wahl's grandson, Greg, is the company's president and CEO. Wahl boasts operations in Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, England, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Japan, Spain, and the US.

Wally's was founded in 1991. Wally's Natural Products wants you to stick it in your ear -- the company's handmade ear candles that is. The personal care products firm is one of the largest suppliers of ear candles in the US for removing ear wax naturally. Wally's has modernized the more than 2,000-year-old practice of ear coning by offering disposable hollow candles constructed of unbleached cotton or linen dipped in paraffin or beeswax. Its products, which include ear candles, oil, and its Practical Guide to Ear Candling, are sold at certain pharmacies, natural health food stores, and GNC, as well as through the company's Web site and other e-tailers.

Wella brushes off much of its competition. One of the world's leading haircare companies, it sells professional and retail haircare products, cosmetics, and fragrances. Its Wella brand is its top seller; hair coloring products (Koleston, Wella Viva) are also leaders. Its Tondeo unit supplies professional products and appliances to salons. Wella's fragrances include Alfred Dunhill, Anna Sui, and Gucci, among others. Reluctantly for Wella at the time, Procter & Gamble acquired a majority stake in the firm in 2003 from four families (Ebert, Pohl, Sander, and Stroeher) that owned some 80% of Wella. Through a Domination Agreement transaction, P&G in November 2007 acquired the rest of its outstanding shares.

Wella UK serves the professional and consumer hair care niches. Through its professional division, salons can order Wella hair care products (Wellastrate, High Hair, Blondor, Lifetex, Koleston Perfect, Color Touch, and Magma), as well as salon equipment, furnishings, and training through the Wella UK Web site. Its consumer unit is managed by owner Procter & Gamble, which sells the products nationwide through supermarkets. Wella UK sponsors the annual Alternative Hair Show to fund Leukemia research.
