Allen & Overy LLP
Allen & Overy was founded in the City of London on 1st January 1930 by George Allen and Thomas Overy. The main purpose was to build a commercial practice but our reputation was made as a result of George Allen’s role as advisor to King Edward VIII during the abdication crisis of 1936. The founders set standards of commercialism, professionalism, pragmatism and innovation which helped to create the character of Allen & Overy.
Allen & Overy knows the law in several languages. The international law firm -- which has 2,600 lawyers in about 30 offices spanning three continents -- specializes in advising on banking, international capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, tax, and other corporate legal issues. Clients have included BT Group, Equitable Life Assurance Society, Merrill Lynch, Shell Chemicals, Standard Chartered, UBS, and Virgin Mobile. Allen & Overy also advises private clients on commercial trust, partnership, property, and tax issues.
