The award for best organization that honors the television industry goes to: the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). ATAS, which has more than 13,000 members, presents the annual Emmy Awards and sponsors various television-related conferences and activities. The organization also oversees the Daytime and L.A. Area Emmy Awards, publishes "emmy" magazine, manages archival and educational programs through its ATAS Foundation, and operates Web sites such as emmys.tv and emmys.com. The Emmy statuette features a winged woman holding an atom aloft to symbolize the melding of art and science. The award's name is a deviation of "Immy," an early television camera. ATAS was founded in 1946.
