Mendocino Redwood Company, LLC
Mendocino Redwood Company thinks green when it comes to producing wood products. The company strives to restore its forests by increasing the number of trees and improving wildlife habitats, while maintaining a successful timber supply business. Established in 1998 by the Donald and Doris Fisher (founders of the clothing chain Gap), the organization manages about 228,800 acres of forestland across northern California in the Mendocino and Sonoma counties. Mendocino Redwood Company harvests about 2% of its acreage every year. In 2008 the company acquired Pacific Lumber (since renamed Humboldt Redwood), which controls about 200,000 acres of timberlands in Humboldt county, for about $550 million.
