Virginia Commerce Bancorp is the holding company for Virginia Commerce Bank, which has about 30 offices serving metropolitan Washington, DC's northern Virginia suburbs. The bank's customer base includes consumers, non-profit groups, and small to midsized businesses, particularly those that have contracts with the US government. The bank also offers wealth management services such as retirement planning, asset management, and investments such as mutual funds. Virginia Commerce primarily originates real estate loans, including mortgages and construction loans, which account for about 90% of its portfolio.

Waccamaw Bancshares is the holding company for the Waccamaw Bank, which operates about 15 branches in the coastal Carolina region. With about 15 branch loactions, Waccamaw provides traditional products such as checking and savings accounts and IRAs. It primarily uses funds from deposits to write commercial loans and mortgages, including business loans, construction loans, and land development loans. Hit by an increase in bad loans, the company is working with regulators to raise its capital holdings. It is also tightening up its lending practices.

WesBanco would like to be "BesBanco" for its customers. The holding company owns WesBanco Bank, which offers banking services through more than 110 branches in West Virginia, Ohio, and western Pennsylvania. In addition to traditional services such as deposits and loans, the bank also offers trust, discount brokerage, and investment services, including its proprietary WesMark mutual funds. WesBanco Insurance Services is a multiline insurance provider. Commercial real estate loans account for more than 40% of of WesBanco's loan portfolio, while residential mortgages are about 20%. The company sells most of the new residential mortgages that it originates into the secondary market.

Wilmington Trust Corporation owns Wilmington Trust Company, which has about 50 bank branches in Delaware. Its trust and banking operations elsewhere in the US are carried out through its Wilmington Trust FSB subsidiary, which has about two dozen offices. In addition to standard banking services such as deposits and loans, Wilmington Trust has business segments devoted to Corporate Client Services, primarily for private businesses in the US, the Caribbean, and Europe; and to Wealth Advisory Services, which includes trust, asset management, and family office services. Wilmington Trust also owns money managers Cramer Rosenthal McGlynn and Roxbury Capital Management. M&T Bank is buying Wilmington Trust.
