UPMC is a leading not-for-profit health care delivery system for the western region of the state. UPMC operates about 20 hospitals, including campuses in the Pittsburgh area, regional and community hospitals, and specialty facilities such as Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and the Magee-Womens Hospital. Combined, UPMC has about 3,400 inpatient beds. In addition, the system provides care through hundreds of physician practices, outpatient clinics, cancer treatment facilities, and rehab centers; it also offers home health care, long-term care through about 15 senior living facilities, and health insurance.

Upson Regional Medical Center is a 115-bed hospital that serves the communities in and around Thomaston, Georgia. Upson Regional also houses a neonatal special care unit, a sleep disorders center, and a wound healing center. The 800-bed system operates two Valley Baptist Medical Centers (VBMC) in South Texas (one in Brownsville and one in Harlingen), both of which are Level III Trauma Centers. The health system also includes an outpatient surgery center, a fitness center, an imaging center, and a managed care health plan provider, as well as network of health care facilities offering specialty services such as home health, hospice, dialysis, and rehabilitation. Its educational offerings include a school of vocational nursing, as well as clinical pastoral education and family practice residency programs.

Valley Health is not-for-profit organization operates six hospitals that house a combined total of roughly 550 beds. Hospitals include flagship facility Winchester Medical Center as well as Warren Memorial Hospital, Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, and a handful of smaller community hospitals. Valley Health also operates an outpatient surgery center, nursing home, rehabilitation facility, ambulance service, and home health care agency, among other things. Founded in 1972, it also operates a Cardiac Center and the HealthPlace for Women and Children's unit (which includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). Valley Medical was the first hospital in the region to receive accreditation as both a Primary Stroke Center and a Certified Chest Pain Center.
