Applied Scintillation Technologies (AST) is a maker of imaging and detection products that utilize phosphor and scintillation technologies. More simply put, AST offers X-ray and other imaging devices that are used in the medical, dental, security, and instrumentation industries. Products include laser alignment devices, infrared digital cameras, phosphor screens, photometers, and radiometers. Founded in 1920, the company was originally called Levy West Laboratory and was an early maker of phosphors for X-ray machines. It was at one time a subsidiary of Levy Hill Group Plc, but members of AST's management (through an entity called TQ Scientific) bought the firm in 2007.

It's all about heart for Arrhythmia Research Technology (ART). The company offers signal-averaging electrocardiographic (SAECG) software that collects data and analyzes electrical impulses of the heart in an effort to detect potentially lethal heart arrhythmias. The company plans to sell the products through licensing agreements with equipment makers. Until it finds a marketing partner, however, ART is relying on sales from its Micron Products subsidiary, which makes snaps and sensors used in the manufacture and operation of disposable electrodes for electrocardiographic (ECG) equipment. Micron Products has acquired assets of several companies that enhance its metal and plastics molding capabilities.

ART Advanced Research Technologies manufactures laser-based diagnostic imaging devices for the medical and pharmaceutical industries. ART's Optix device allows scientists to use molecular imaging technology to study live animal subjects. The company's SoftScan device is used to detect and diagnose breast cancer. Both use light, rather than X-rays or soundwaves, in their applications. It also makes Fenestra contrast imaging agents. ART's products are distributed through direct sales efforts and via a strategic alliance with GE Healthcare. The company restructured under bankruptcy protection and was acquired by private financial firm Dorsky Worldwide in 2009.

Arthrex designs and makes products for arthroscopic and orthopedic surgery, including the evocatively named hip-length shaver blades and burrs, midfoot plates, Achilles tendon reattachment bridges, and suture anchors. Arthrex distributes more than 4,000 products to hospitals and surgeons throughout the US and in some 70 other countries. The company's also supplies products to the the US military and navy. Established in 1984, the privately-held company operates from more than a dozen locations in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Arthrex is led by president Reinhold Schmieding.
