BHS was founded in 1892 and took its present form in 1985. The system is sponsored by the Benedictine Sisters of St. Scholastica Monastery in Duluth, Minnesota. Benedictine Health System (BHS) is a provider of senior care services in the Midwest. The health system mostly serves rural and smaller communities in seven states. It operates about 40 long-term care facilities including nursing homes, assisted-living centers, and independent senior housing developments. Other offerings include adult day-care, transitional care, and outpatient rehabilitation. Many of its facilities are integrated campuses that provide a spectrum of services.
