Silicon Light Machines Corporation
Silicon Light Machines Corporation makes tiny silicon machines for handling light. Using a patented Grating Light Valve (GLV) technology, the company builds optical micro- electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) onto silicon semiconductor wafers. After first using GLV-based technology -- licensed to Sony -- to produce high-resolution digital displays, SLM develops and markets a lineup of optical imaging devices for a diversity of applications. Its products are used in high- end computer-to-print systems, high-speed maskless lithography, and high-bandwidth telecommunications. Japan- based Dainippon Screen Manufacturing acquired SLM's MEMS business in 2008.
