As an owner and operator of about two dozen television stations, Hoak Media operates in small- to medium-sized markets, primarily in North and South Dakota, but also in Colorado, Nebraska, Louisiana, and other states. Its portfolio of stations contains affiliates of all four major networks, as well as The CW and MyNetworkTV affiliates. Hoak Media was founded in 2003 by Jim Hoak, CEO Eric Van den Branden, and other investors. The company has added stations to its portfolio in almost every year since its founding.

ITN is near the top of the heap in the UK news business. Independent Television News (ITN) produces news and documentaries for television, radio, and new media outlets. Its core business is the production of news programming for ITV1, but it also produces broadcasts for other clients, including the Channel 4 network, about 250 radio stations, and digital satellite and Internet outfits. UK broadcasting giant ITV was behind ITN's founding in 1955 and owns 40% of it. Other partners sharing ownership in the joint venture include Daily Mail and General Trust, United Business Media, and Thomson Reuters.
