Innerstave, Inc.
Innerstave, Inc. was founded by fellow coopers (barrel makers) president Bob Rogers and Cole Cornelius, who began their collaboration in 1976. Innerstave company makes oak inserts (staves), which go into barrels and tanks to impart new oak flavor without the vintner actually having to purchase new barrels. Oak barrels cost $300 to $600 so it makes sense to get as much mileage as possible from them. Innerstaves' wooden slats fit inside the aging vessel and can be easily replaced when they have given up all their flavor, typically after three to five vintages. Innerstave company also sells loose slats, chips, custom staves, and specially configured staves.
