Iran Aseman Airlines
Iran Aseman Airlines flies to nearly 50 destinations throughout its Persian homeland as well as to seven neighboring countries. Its main hub is the airport in Tehran, but one of three secondary ones is in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The carrier operates a fleet of 25 planes, including Fokker 100 and Boeing 727 jets as well as ATR-72 turboprops. Iran Aseman, founded in 1980, transports about 2.5 million passengers a year. (Aseman is the word for "skies" in Farsi, Iran's national language.) The airline acknowledges that ongoing US economic sanctions against Iran have hampered the carrier's ability to acquire new planes and parts at the most cost-effective rates.
