Dillard University
Dillard University is diligent about providing a quality liberal arts education for its students. The historically black institution is named after James Hardy Dillard, the former president of Tulane University, who played a role in the education of African Americans in the South.
The New Orleans-based university enrolls some 850 students. Enrollment fell in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which flooded the university in 2005. The damage forced Dillard to suspend operations for a semester and lay off staff and faculty.
