The TOTAL brand has been marketed in the UK since 1955 and was set up as Total Oil Great Britain Ltd (TOGB) originally formed as part of the French Total SA group. It quickly established itself as an innovative petrol retailer increasing its number of service stations at a rapid rate. When it comes to the UK petroleum refining and distribution industry, TOTAL UK does it all. The company is a subsidiary of French oil giant TOTAL S.A.. It provides gasoline to about 850 retail services stations in the UK (about 10% of the British retail market) and operates a petroleum refinery capable of producing more than 220,000 barrels of petroleum products per day. The roots of Tüpraş, an integrated petroleum company with a large market share, corporate reliability, production complexes and affiliates, dates back to İPRAŞ (İstanbul Petrol Rafinerisi A.Ş.) founded by the U.S. Caltex Company. In 1983, İPRAŞ and three other publicly owned refineries were brought under the Tüpraş umbrella by arrangements made for a more effective operation of State Economic Enterprises. The first step for operational diversification of Tüpraş was the purchase in 2001 of the Petkim Yarımca facilities, putting in place the ready-to-operate infrastructure for enlargement projects that were needed by the refining operations.

Reaching a new level Ultrapar is one of Brazil’s largest and most solid economic groups. The foundation of Unipetrol in 1994 represented the completion of one of the gradual conceptual steps in the privatisation of the Czech petrochemical industry. Unipetrol was meant to unite selected Czech petrochemical companies into a conglomerate that would be able to compete with strong international groups. Represented by the National Property Fund, the Czech state was the majority shareholder with 63 percent. The remaining shares were owned by investment funds and small shareholders. The original concept was that the state’s interest in the company should be privatised. Kaučuk, Chemopetrol, Benzina, Paramo, Koramo, Česká rafinérská, Unipetrol Trade, Spolana and Unipetrol Rafinérie were gradually integrated into Unipetrol.Effective from 1 January 1996, refineries of Chemopetrol in Litvínov and Kaučuk in Kralupy were separated to be united within Česká rafinérská.
