PMC-Sierra Israel (formerly Passave) develops semiconductors for broadband fiber access networks. PMC-Sierra Israel, Ltd. company designs system-on-a-chip devices for networking equipment that will bring "fiber to the home," providing broadband access to residences for voice, video, and high-speed Internet services. This market is often called the "first mile" in broadband fiber access, since it represents the initial step in building fiber-optic networks across the US and in other developed countries. All of PMC-Israel's customers are in Asia, with most located in Japan. PMC-Sierra acquired Passave in 2006 for about $300 million in stock.
