Aptina Imaging Corporation company makes CMOS image sensors (semiconductors that convert light into electronic images) used in various types of cameras. Its sensors are built into digital and video cameras, as well as cameras used in mobile phones, PCs, and surveillance equipment. The company also makes sensors for medical scoping cameras (i.e. used for colonoscopies) and back-up cameras embedded in automobiles. Aptina partners with mobile handset makers and camera component designers and distributes its products in North America, Europe, and Asia. Memory chip maker Micron Technology formed Aptina in 2008 and spun it off in 2009.
