Adaptive Networks, Inc.

Adaptive Networks keeps communication down-to-the-wire. It researches, develops, and sells chipsets and modules that helps transmit data at high speeds over ordinary electrical power lines. The technology has been adapted for commercial and industrial data networks -- hospitals, hotels, utility companies -- and also has applications in home networking. The company was founded in 1983 by the Propp brothers, Michael (president) and David (EVP), and applied for its first patent in 1986. Products include PowerStream (used for streaming multimedia including video and audio) and PowerConnect (powerline communications chipset). Outside investors own about three-quarters of the company, with officers holding one-quarter.
