The American Chamber of Commerce in India (AMCHAM - India) is an association of American business organizations operating in India. AMCHAM - India is accredited to the Chamber of Commerce of USA, Washington DC, U.S.A. (COCUSA). It is also a full member of the Asia Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC). Established in 1992, AMCHAM has around 500 members. Companies of US origin make up about 95 percent of membership, the remaining being individual or honorary members. The incumbent U.S. Ambassador to India is the Honorary President of AMCHAM. AMCHAM enjoys a very close relationship with the US Embassy officials and receives tremendous support in fulfilling its objectives.
The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) is the nodal agency for the Indian Auto Component Industry.It's active involvement in trade promotion, technology up-gradation, quality enhancement and collection and dissemination of information has made it a vital catalyst for this industry's development. It's other activities include participation in international trade fairs, sending trade delegations overseas and bringing out publications on various subjects related to the automotive industry. For Exchange of Information and especially for co-operation in trade matters, ACMA has signed Memoranda of Understanding with its counterparts in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, UK, USA and Uzbekistan.
The Chamber was founded in 1836 by seven Britishers and three Parsees “to encourage a friendly feeling and unanimity among commercial men on all subjects involving the common good, to promote and protect the general mercantile interests of this [Bombay] Presidency, to collect and classify information on all matters of general mercantile interest, to obtain the removal … of all acknowledged grievances...” In those days there was an entrance fee of Rs 150 and a monthly subscription of Rs 20. Other objects and duties included simplification and facilitation of business practices, communication with public authorities on all matters of mercantile interest and to carry out arbitration of disputes among members. The role of the Chamber in the development of the city and the region is of particular significance. It was largely responsible for the first railway built in India-The Bombay-Thana railway completed in 1853. The Chamber has been represented on the Port Trust and intimately connected with it since its inauguration in 1873. The Chamber initiated a scheme for collecting port statistics and in 1860 and was placed in sole charge of all returns concerning external trade of the Bombay Port, such as import-export manifests and daily arrival returns. The Chamber was also instrumental in obtaining Government sanction for the construction of wind and current charts of Indian seas.
Builders' Association of India (BAI) was formed in 1941 in Pune with guidance from Brigadier Jackson, who also allotted office space in the Military Compound. The then office of BAI, aptly named 'Jackson Hut' in his memory, is still being used by BAI. During last more than 70 years since its inception, BAI movement has grown in leaps and bounds and at present has 130 Centres spread over the length and breadth of the Country, with its headquarters at Mumbai. With a direct membership of 13,000 constructors and indirect membership of 50,000 through various regional Associations affiliated to it, BAI by virtue of its size is the only true spokesman for this core industry. It safeguards the interests of the Indian construction industry against unjust government legislations and at the same time promotes adherence to fair government legislations by its members. Its aims and objects speak for themselves.
COAI was constituted in 1995 as a registered, non-governmental society. The Association is dedicated to the advancement of modern communication through the establishment of world-class mobile infrastructure, products and services and to delivering the benefits of innovative and affordable mobile communication services to the people of India. Over the years COAI has emerged as the official voice for the Indian telecom industry and interacts directly with Ministries, Policy Makers, Regulators, Financial Institutions and Technical Bodies. It provides a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas between these bodies and the Service Providers, who share a common interest in the development of mobile telephony in the country. COAI collaborates with other Industry Associations such as CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, AUSPI, ISPAI, VSAT association etc. with the objective of presenting an industry consensus view to the Government on crucial issues relating to the growth and development of the Indian telecom Industry.
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) works to create and sustain an environment conducive to the growth of industry in India, partnering industry and government alike through advisory and consultative processes. CII is a non-government, not-for-profit, industry-led and industry-managed organization, playing a proactive role in India's development process. Founded in 1895, India's premier business association has over 7200 members, from the private as well as public sectors, including SMEs and MNCs, and an indirect membership of over 100,000 enterprises from around 242 national and regional sectoral industry bodies. CII charts change by working closely with Government on policy issues, interfacing with thought leaders, and enhancing efficiency, competitiveness and business opportunities for industry through a range of specialized services and strategic global linkages. It also provides a platform for consensus-building and networking on key issues. Extending its agenda beyond business, CII assists industry to identify and execute corporate citizenship programmes. Partnerships with civil society organizations carry forward corporate initiatives for integrated and inclusive development across diverse domains including affirmative action, healthcare, education, livelihood, diversity management, skill development, empowerment of women, and water, to name a few.
The DMAI Manufacturers Association of India was set up in 1950, (Manufacture of dyes in India was started in 1940), to promote & protect trade, commerce & Industries connected with dyestuffs & to encourage friendly feelings & unanimity amongst those engaged in the manufacture of dyestuffs in India. This objective has been achieved manifold; be it representations to various Ministries & Governmental agencies, encouraging the exports of the country, high-lighting causes to Municipal Authorities, encouraging deserving students, increasing our own technical competence etc. The Association, in the 50's & 60's encouraged the development of the Small Scale Industry in the Dyestuff trade. It took up the cause of these newly established companies and played an important role in obtaining import licenses for the vital raw materials required by these SSI companies. The Association has also helped the Small Scale Industries in getting concessional excise tariffs and reservation benefits.
