One such group is the Kavikulguru Institute of Technology and Science (KITS), located at Ramtek, one of the important pilgrim centres and tourism spots of Maharashtra, about 45 km from Nagpur and well connected by road and rail. It is a serene town abounding in scenic beauty and is free from noise and air pollution. Ramtek is also an industrial hub, with leading companies like DCL Polysters, Pennar Aluminium, Suryalaxmi Group and Visakha Industries having already commenced production. Also, Asia's biggest industrial estate is being set up at Butibori, which is 80 km away. The institute was established during the academic year 1985-86. The college is named after the famous poet Kavikulguru Kalidas. KITS, Ramtek, is affiliated to Nagpur University and is being developed as per the norms of the AICTE. It was founded by the Vodithala Education Society in 1990 and has its own premises sprawled over 19.8 hectares (50 acres), near the railway station. The campus has well-laid roads, bordered by tall trees, wide lawns and beautiful rose gardens, adding to the aesthetic charm of the campus. KITS, Ramtek is the first engineering college in Nagpur University to run a management programme. The institute offers a two-year full time MBA programme, which is aimed at providing analytical insights and a thorough knowledge base to help managers emerge as leaders of tomorrow. This is sought to be achieved through case discussions, games, paper presentation, public speaking classes, seminars, workshops, guest lectures, quizzes, summer and winter internships, industry visits for the students, etc. The institute follows the semester system and a process of continuous evaluation.
