Manipal Universal Learning has always believed in the philosophy that education knows no barriers not even that of geography. Being a Learning Resource Development Centre for Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences and Manipal University, Manipal Universal Learning has been offering student support services for Distance Education programmes and also shorttern courses on information technology. SMU was set up in partnership between the Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG) and the government of Sikkim, with the objective of offering professional quality higher education to students and working professionals. Apart from regular on-site courses, SMU offers many career-oriented courses through the distance education mode the Directorate of Distance Education. The courses being offered include masters and bachelors degrees, as well as diploma and postgraduate diploma courses. These courses are offered as a part of its effort to provide education for all. The courses are designed to enable students to gain sufficient knowledge and skills, which makes them employable in a competitive global environment. The objective of the institute is to: Provide high-quality, value-based, career-oriented education to students and working professionals, using technology for optimisation of teaching resources. Facilitate students in understanding, developing, integrating and applying both core and specialised concepts and practices. Provide students with a stimulating and learning-friendly atmosphere so that they can specialise in various areas of study. Produce energetic, effective, efficient and ethically driven graduates and postgraduates to serve society. Since it offers a combination of classroom teaching and distance education, it is able to respond to the industry needs quickly and design courses that suit specific sectoral requirements.
