Infosys founder Narayana Murthy lauds demonetisation but criticises poor execution

Infosys founder N R Narayana Murthy, in an interview with CNN News18, on Tuesday said that demonetisation was a good step would help boost India’s digital economy. Murthy was of the opinion that this was the best time for all the political parties to come together and ensure a clean economy. He said that all the political parties could join shoulders to ensure a clean electoral funding.

Narayan Murthy has been a vocal supporter of the government’s demonetisation scheme and on November 10, had shared his opinion and said that it was a good move. He was of the opinion that it would bring down black money and corruption and provide an incentive for people to use the digital economy. Murthy had in fact called for celebrations as the move, in his opinion was a good on all three dimensions.

Murthy, on Tuesday, said that the execution of the demonetisation scheme was not up to the mark as the Prime Minister would have wanted. Murthy also said that the next step in the fight against corruption and black money was to tighten the noose around tax avoidance and provide enough deterrent so that people do not avoid tax payment. Earlier, on November 8, PM Narendra Modi had announced the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes overnight. The country still remains divided over the decision as it can be termed as a bold move against corruption but also happens to have been poorly executed causing severe inconvineinces to people.
