Bajaj Auto launches three new motorcycle models
Mumbai: Bajaj Auto Ltd has launched three new motorcycle models based on its Avenger platform as it seeks to resurrect its share in the competitive but slowing domestic motorcycle market.
The three new models include the Adventure Cruise and Street 220, priced at Rs.84,000 each and Street 150 priced at Rs.75,000. The Pune-based firm plans to introduce four models as part of a plan to capture 22% marketshare from the current 19% in the domestic motorcycle market, the company said at a press meet in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The company plans to sell 20,000 units of the Avenger range per month, said Eric Vas, president, motorcycle business at Bajaj Auto. “These bikes are very different from the existing bikes in the market and help the firm in strengthening the hold in the premium segment of the market,” he said.
The fourth one, a new motorcycle brand to be positioned in the mid-segment, will be unveiled in the fourth quarter of the current fiscal.
Bajaj Auto sold 9,55,148 units, a marginal increase from 9,52,492 units a year ago, in the first half of the current fiscal ended in September.
Total domestic motorcycles sales during the period stood at 53,64,391 units as against 55,91,328 units in the year-ago period, down 4.06%, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.
