BSE Sensex plunges over 270 pts; NSE Nifty below 8,550; Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Wipro stocks rise
BSE Sensex plunged over 270 points down after the Parliament’s first monsoon session failed to impress traders.
Indian equity benchmarks continue to trade choppy with Sensex and Nifty swinging between negative and positive territory.
IT sector stocks surged after Infosys reported a 5 per cent growth in net profit for the first quarter of 2015-16.
At 3:17 pm BSE Sensex dropped 267.46 at 28,152.66. NSE Nifty dropped 76.30 points at 8,527.15
At 1:11 pm BSE Sensex dropped 18.27 at 28,401.85. NSE Nifty dropped 1.95 points at 8,601.50
At 10:23 am BSE Sensex gained 68.93 at 28,489.05. NSE Nifty gained 25.50 points at 8,628.95
At 9:46 am BSE Sensex gained 24.10 at 28,444.22. NSE Nifty dropped 11.10 points at 8,614.55
At 9:33 am BSE Sensex slipped 9.98 at 28,410.14. NSE Nifty dropped 2.85 points at 8,600.60
The Indian markets made a soft start of the week and ended mildly in red in last session.

Investors remained concerned as monsoon session has commenced in the Parliament and investors will look out for the key developments concerning the rollout of GST and the passage of the land acquisition bill.
Depreciation in Indian rupee too dampened the sentiments. The rupee depreciated by 7 paise to 63.73 against the dollar due to rise in greenback against other currencies overseas.
Selling in healthcare counter too weighed down sentiments with Sun Pharma contributing the most to the losses after the drug maker said its profit might be adversely impacted in financial year 2015-16.
The few gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were IT up by 4.48%, TECK up by 4.01%, Auto up by 0.35%, Consumer Durables up by 0.18%, while Healthcare down by 4.52%, FMCG down by 1.08%, Power down by 0.61%, INFRA down by 0.57% and Oil & Gas down by 0.57%, were the top losing indices on BSE.
The top gainers on the Sensex were Infosys up by 9.85%, Bharti Airtel up by 4.90%, Wipro up by 2.48%, Bajaj Auto up by 1.52% and Hindalco up by 1.51%.
On the flip side, Sun Pharma down by 13.60%, Lupin down by 3.46%, Vedanta down by 3.07%, Hindustan Unilever down by 2.39% and Tata Steel down by 2.29% were the top losers.
