Radioactive leak detected at Delhi airport; plugged, says HM Rajnath Singh

A Radioactive leak from a medicinal consignment was detected at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Friday.

According to reports, a leak was detected after a package containing nuclear medicine was damaged.

The incident happened at the cargo area of Turkish airlines.

The Home Ministry has confirmed that the situation has been neutralised. Home Minister Rajnath Singh was quoted as saying that the leakage at cargo complex in IGI Airport was plugged​.

An anti-sabotage team of the National Disaster Response Force or NDRF is on the spot.

NDRF DG said, "We are Monitoring the whole situation. Radioactive substance came from Istanbul for Fortis Hospital whose authorities have been called," reported ANI.

In 2010, a mild radiation leak in a west Delhi industrial area had triggered panic in the capital after a scrap dealer and his three employees suffered burn injuries and fell unconscious after coming in contact with a mysterious shining object.
