AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa met Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah on Friday afternoon and handed him a list of names who will be made ministers in her government. Large crowds greeted her en route to Raj Bhavan and Jayalalithaa later left to garland M G Ramachandran’s statue.
Earlier in the day, an AIADMK legislature party meeting, which started at 7 am today, concluded in five minutes electing party chief J Jayalalithaa as the leader of the legislature party, paving her way to become the CM of Tamil Nadu.
Jayalalithaa’s return to the top post comes after she was acquitted by the Karnataka High Court in a 19-year disproportionate assets case. She was forced to quit as Chief Minister after she was found guilty by a trial court last September.
Here is the schedule of Jayalalithaa in the days to come:
May 22, 1.40 pm: Jayalalithaa will leave Poes Garden residence to drive to Raj Bhavan to meet K Rosaiah, the governor of Tamil Nadu.
1.50pm: The resolution electing her as the Chief Minister would be handed over to the governor.
After 2pm: Her convoy will reach the memorial of M G Ramachandran, former Chief Minister and her mentor, on Marina beach to garland his statue, and she will also garland statues of DMK founder C N Annadurai, MGR’s mentor, and Periyar E V Ramasamy, mentor of Annadurai and the leader of self-respect movement, who founded Dravida Kazhagam (DK) party.
May 23, after 10.30am (9.30 am to 10.30 am considered inauspicious): She reaches the centenary hall of the University of Madras, one of her favourite venues in Chennai, where she would be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the fifth time. Most likely, R Thandavan, Vice Chancellor of the university, who is also a card holding member of her party and one who acted in AIADMK’s propaganda movies during MGR’s period, will be receiving her at the university campus.
After the swearing-in ceremony, she would head to the state secretariat. She would sign three crucial files on Saturday, including one on transgenders and another on women.
A press meeting is also being planned on the same day evening, for which the time and venue is not yet finalised.
