SC seeks EC's response on pleas challenging SIR in Kerala, other states

The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a batch of pleas challenging the Election Commission's decision to conduct Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Kerala, Uttar Pradesh and other states.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant, SVN Bhatti and Joymalya Bagchi issued notice to the Election Commission on all the fresh petitions filed by different political leaders, challenging SIR exercises in different states on different grounds.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for a petitioner challenging SIR exercise in Kerala, submitted that local body elections are also scheduled to be held in the state and, therefore, there is some urgency involved in the matter.
The bench directed the pleas challenging SIR exercise in Kerala will be listed on November 26 and rest of the petitions challenging electoral roll revision exercise in other states will be taken up for hearing in the first or second week of December.
The top court is already hearing a batch of pleas challenging the validity of the Election Commission's decision to conduct pan-India SIR exercise.
On November 11, the top court sought separate responses of the poll panel on pleas filed by DMK, CPI(M), West Bengal Congress and Trinamool Congress leaders challenging the SIR of the electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal respectively.

Domestic carrier IndiGo on Friday said it has approved an investment of $820 million (about Rs 7,270 crore) in its wholly-owned subsidiary InterGlobe Aviation Financial Services IFSC Private Limited for aircraft acquisition.
The investment will be made through a combination of equity shares and 0.01 per cent non-cumulative optionally convertible redeemable preference shares (OCRPS), in one or more tranches, the airline said in a statement.

Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey on Friday said that the regulator is working to strengthen the link between infrastructure building and the markets.
Speaking at Addressing the National Conclave on Reits & InvITs 2025, Pandey said, "Sebi's role is to strengthen the bridge between infrastructure and markets. On the primary market side, we will continue to simplify capital raising through initial public offerings (IPOs), rights issues and bonds."

The Enforcement Directorate on Friday conducted a mega search operation in Jharkhand and West Bengal as part of a money laundering probe against the coal mafia in the two neighbouring states, officials said.
More than 40 premises are being covered in the raids that were launched around 6 am with almost 100 officials and staff of the federal probe agency participating.

India's Bharti Telecom, the holding company of Bharti Airtel, is looking to raise $1 billion through a bond sale, its second in two months, two sources aware of the matter said on Friday.
The company is set to issue ₹9,000 crore ($1.01 billion) worth of bonds maturing in two years and in three years and is likely to pay a coupon of 7.25 per cent and 7.35 per cent, respectively.

Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) has stopped import of Russian crude oil into its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) refinery in Jamnagar, Gujarat, with effect from November 20, the company said in a statement late Thursday evening. This comes hours before the United States’ sanctions on Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil are supposed to come into effect (from November 21).
