Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel trim to be launched in first half of 2015
Maruti Suzuki, the leading passenger carmaker of the country is once again ready for a major release this season – Maruti Celerio diesel variant may soon see the light of the day in the second quarter of this year. The petrol variant of the vehicle is already available in the market that has done very well as far as sales figures are concerned.
From the outside, we do not expect any change in the appearance of the car as it will come with the same fit and finish. The car will likely have bold front fascia that comprises of swept back headlamps, twin slate grille and fog lights at each end of the bumper. The dimensions of the car would include a length of 3600mm, a width of 1600mm and a height of 1560mm. Ground clearance would be 165mm whereas wheelbase of the car will be same 2425mm. We can also expect the bumper to be colored with radiator grille just below it along with body colored door handles.
Going into the details of the interiors, Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel would share the same pattern as the petrol trim with two tone color scheme and a layered dashboard. The three spoke steering wheel comes finished in chrome while the entire upholstery in the car is well designed too. The interior would give the same ambience offering a large boot space of 235 litres.
If we talk about the specs under the hood, which is why this car is getting so much hype these days, Maruti Suzuki Celerio will get a 792cc twin-cylinder turbo diesel engine built completely in-house. Exact power details are not yet known but it would be generating output of anything around 50bhp along with 100Nm of torque. If these stats do turn out to be true, then the vehicle would become the smallest capacity diesel car in the country. Having said that, it is also expected that Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel would deliver a fuel economy of 35kmpl which is more than anything we have seen in any car in the country till date. What the buyers would be looking forward to is the Automated Manual Transmission or Auto Gear Shift system that played a big role in the success of Maruti Suzuki Celerio petrol trim. Other technical specs for the vehicle would include ventilated disc for the front tyres along with drum brakes for the rear ones while the suspension set-up would be the same McPherson Strut type.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio petrol trim had lots of comfort features which we can expect the diesel variant too will carry that includes low fuel warning lamp, door ajar warning lamp and engine immobilizer. There will be power steering, manual air conditioning, integrated head restraints, fixed outside mirror, digital clock and ticket holder.
Chances are that the diesel trim would feature the same color schemes viz. Blazing Red, Sunshine Grey, Cerulean Blue, Pearl Architect White, Cave Black, Silky Silver and Glistening grey.
Apart from the diesel Celerio, another car to be launched with the diesel powertrain would be Maruti Wagon R. This upcoming vehicle is expected to have an engine displacement of 970cc backed by 3 cylinders with 4 valves each. The engine would generate a torque of 150Nm and a power of 60bhp. With the said engine, Maruti Wagon R is expected to come out with a city mileage of 18kmpl and a highway mileage of 23kmpl which is still pretty less than the 35kmpl mileage that is anticipated in Maruti Suzuki Celerio diesel trim.
As far as price is concerned, it would obviously be valued above the petrol version, expect about INR 80,000 more than the ongoing petrol variant. The car is expected to be launched in the first half of 2015 and when released, it would lock horns with the likes of Chevrolet Beat and Hyundai Grand i10 in the segment.
