10-day full lockdown in Telangana from May 12 - What's allowed, what's not

Telangana government on Tuesday (May 11) announced that a 10-day lockdown will remain in place across the state from tomorrow.

As per the lockdown measures imposed by Telangana government, there will be relaxation to sell and buy essential items everyday from 6 am to 10 am only.

The decision to impose the lockdown was taken at a Cabinet meeting held today at the residence of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

In a related development, the Telangana government has decided to call for global tenders to augment vaccine supply in the state.

“There are reports that suggest that despite certain states imposing the lockdown, there is no decrease in the cases. Against this backdrop, different opinions are emerging on the lockdown. Some sections are arguing in favour of the imposition of lockdown. Under these circumstances, the state cabinet would discuss the pros and cons of the lockdown and also the adverse impact it may have on the ongoing procurement of paddy and it will take a decision,” the Chief Minister’s Office had said on Monday.

It may be recalled that Telangana had imposed a night curfew two weeks ago, however, experts maintain that total lockdown is required to control the spread of coronavirus.

Earlier last week, CM KCR had ruled out imposing lockdown in Telangana saying a full lockdown will affect the economy of the state.
