Maruti MD & CEO Kenichi Ayukawa tests Covid-positive, hospitalised

Kenichi Ayukawa, managing director and chief executive of car market leader, Maruti Suzuki India, has tested positive for Covid-19. He has been admitted to Medanta in Gurugram, according to people in the know. The spokesperson at the company didn’t respond to a text message till press time.
This is the second time in less than a year that Ayukawa, 66, has tested positive for the virus, said one of the persons cited above. “Like last time, this time too he is asymptomatic but decided to get himself admitted as his family is in Japan and he lives alone,” said the person.
India is battling one of the worst health crises ever. More than 3.6 lakh new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours —yet another single day record.
On Wednesday, the maker of WagonR and Swift models said it will shut down all of its manufacturing facilities starting 1 May till 9 May, as it looks to divert oxygen supplied to its plants for medical purposes.

Actor Mahesh Babu has been served legal notices by the Ranga Reddy District Consumer Commission in Telangana over his endorsement of real estate firm Sai Surya Developers, Deccan Chronicle reported.
The complaint was filed by a Hyderabad-based doctor, who alleged that she was duped after paying ₹34.8 lakh for non-existent plots. She accused the actor of endorsing Sai Surya Developers, thereby misleading prospective buyers.

The Indian Rupee slipped as renewed pressures hit the currency after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 10 per cent tariff on countries aligning with Brics policies.
The domestic currency closed 47 paise lower at 85.86 against the dollar on Monday, the worst fall since June 13, according to Bloomberg. In intraday, the currency fell past the 86 mark, and pared losses on likely Reserve Bank of India (RBI) intervention.

Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey on Monday said that the markets regulator is upgrading its surveillance to examine cases of derivatives manipulation. His remark comes days after Sebi found New York-based hedge fund Jane Street was manipulating stock indexes.
"There may not be many more such cases," said Pandey, as quoted by news agency Reuters.

French IT services giant Capgemini announced on Monday that it will acquire India-based outsourcing firm WNS in an all-cash deal worth $3.3 billion, news agency Reuters reported. The move is aimed at helping Capgemini capitalise on its Agentic AI (AI systems designed to operate autonomously), helping clients modernise their business operations.
Capgemini will pay $76.50 per WNS share, which is 17 per cent higher than the closing price on July 3, excluding WNS’s existing debt, the report said.
