Ford India recalls 20,752 EcoSport units
Ford India on Tuesday said that it has initiated a voluntary recall of 20,752 of its popular compact sports utility vehicle EcoSport over concerns of fuel and vapour line corrosion in the long term.
Ford India will inspect EcoSport variants, made at the company’s Chennai plant between January 2013 and September 2014, for concerns of fuel and vapour line corrosion and will also check the vehicles for reorienting wiring harness related to the correct deployment of side airbags, a company statement said.
“The safety of our customers is always priority at Ford India. For their peace of mind, we have initiated a Field Service Action to correct product concerns on 20,752 Ford EcoSport vehicles in India. This is a proactive, voluntary recall action to ensure customers’ safety and satisfaction,” a company’s spokesperson said in a statement.
Ford is writing to customers and asking them to contact their local Ford dealer so that the necessary rework can be carried out free of cost. Ford India exports EcoSport, among other models, to over 35 countries across the globe.
It may be recalled that Ford India in November this year recalled 3,072 units of the Fiesta diesel to replace the Glow Plug Control Module, a component used to heat the engine in cold starts. It had also initiated a Field Service Action to correct a product concern of Ford Fiesta TDCi vehicles.
Ford India sold 12,762 vehicles in domestic sales and exports in November, compared to 12,050 vehicles a year earlier. The November exports stood at 7,101 vehicles against 4,141 vehicles a year ago while domestic sales were at 5,661 vehicles compared to 7,909 units sold in the same period last year.
