Market opens on positive note as Sensex goes beyond 33,600 mark; mid-cap index at record high
Equity benchmarks on Friday were off to a good start as the BSE Sensex were trading beyond 33,600. Nifty also opened in the green and were gaining at 0.20 per cent in early trade.
At 9:51 PM, Sensex was 88.54 points up to trade at 33,675.57 while Nifty was trading at 28.70 pois to reach upwards at 10,377.30.
In what could be a power packed comeback from last week's drag trade, key indices have finished with gains for the last six successive sessions. Besides the metal stocks, all other sectoral indices were positive with IT and bank sectors setting the trend. Infosys, Sun Pharma, Bharti Airtel, Hero Motocorp advanced by up to 0.77 per cent.
Bajaj Auto, Infosys, Reliance and Tech Mahindra were the major gainers while Hindalco, Hindustan Unilever and Tata Steel losing the most.
Observers said uninterrupted buying by domestic institutional investors and a firm trend in Asia laid the early pitch. Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.62 per cent while Shanghai Composite edged up 0.59 per cent in opening trade today.
Financial markets in Japan are closed today for a public holiday.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, ended 0.27 per cent lower yesterday.
