Strong global cues send markets surging, Sensex gains more than 300 points
On Wednesday, the equity benchmarks- Sensex and Nifty rallied heavily on back of strong global cues.
The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 321.86 points to close on 31,770.89 while the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 103.15 points to end trading on 9,897.30. Both the indices gained more than a per cent uring the day.
The buoyancy in the stock markets was led by bank stock and midcaps- two indices which had been laggards in the last week's slump. The easing of geopolitical tensions and a positive European market also contributed in the market's comeback.
Tata Motors, Cipla, Hindustan Unilever, ITC and Tech Mahindra were the major gainers- each of their shares gaining more than 3 per cent.
Asian Paint, Yes Bank, NTPC and Lupin lost the most.
