India's total tally of COVID-19 cases climbed to1,53,21,089with2,59,170new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, while active cases surpassed the 20-lakh mark, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The death toll increased to1,80,530 with a record 1,761 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Congress leader P. Chidambaram on Monday alleged that Covid-caused deaths are being under-reported in Gujarat.

Citing media reports, Chidambaram said Covid-caused deaths are being mis-reported as caused by cardiac arrest, chronic diabetes.

The overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 141.1 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.01 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
