Amid the surge in the COVID caseload in Maharashtra, a curfew has been imposed in the Wardha district from 8 pm on Saturday (February 27) to 8 am on Monday (March 1). Everything except essential services and medical stores will be closed. Petrol pumps will also remain closed during the curfew period. The district reported a massive surge of 1,126 COVID patients in the past 10 days. A curfew had been imposed in Wardha last week also.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee raised fingers at the Election Commission of India with regard to the announcement of election dates for the upcoming Assembly polls. Addressing a media conference, Mamata alleged that the decision was taken to suit the convenience of the BJP.

With rising fuel prices pinching the pockets of its delivery partners, foodtech platform Zomato has put in place a revised pay structure for them which will now include a component of distance pay. It has also introduced a long-distance return pay which means for every long-distance order completed, its delivery partner would either receive another order within 15 minutes that would bring them back closer to their base working location or they will get an additional payout for travelling the extra distance.

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal said on Twitter that the company is not yet passing on this cost to customers.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has called an important press conference on Friday at 4:30 pm. It is likely the commission will announce the dates for elections in West Bengal. Apart from that, dates for polls in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry may also be announced.

India recorded its single-day increase in coronavirus cases above 16,000 for the second consecutive day as the infection tally rose to 1,10,63,491, while the recoveries have surged to 1,07,50,680,according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Friday.

A total16,577infections were reported in a day, while the death toll increased to 1,56,825 with 120 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

In wake of rising COVID-19 cases in India, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has warned that night curfew might be reimposed in the state if required to curb the spread of the virus. The CM also urged people not to travel to Maharashtra as the state has witnessed a significant rise in the caseload.

In his address to the people, Chouhan advised labourers to avoid travelling to neighbour state Maharashtra in search of work due to the COVID-19 situation there.

While petrol and diesel continue to sell at all-time high prices, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Thursday that she won't be able to answer when the fuel rates will be reduced.
