Sun TV to invest Rs 500 cr in OTT and movies, strengthen regional channels

Media tycoon Kalanithi Maran-owned Sun TV is planning to invest around Rs 500 crore in its digital initiative Sun Nxt, to strengthen its regional channels and acquire movies.

Of the proposed amount, some Rs 250 crore will be spent on Sun NXT, while sizeable investments will go to Bengali and Marathi channels, which it sees as larger markets than Malayalam.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment is likely to complete the process to finalise the rules for four new labour codes soon. The proposed labour codes could provide companies with the flexibility of four working days in a week, even as the working hours limit of 48 hours for a week will remain sacrosanct, Labour and Employment Secretary Apurva Chandra said on Monday.

Chandra on Monday said that the government is considering the objections raised by the trade unions to 12-hour daily work shift and three days of paid leaves.

26 bodies have been recovered in Tapovan so far and 171 persons are missing after a glacial break in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district triggered an avalanche and massive flooding of Alaknanda and Dhauliganga rivers on Sunday morning, said state Director General of Police Ashok Kumar on Monday.

Taking to Twitter, Kumar informed that 35 people are supposed to be in the Tunnel where the rescue operation is still going on.
