Benchmark indices logged fresh all-time highs on Thursday amid positive sentiment across the global markets on hopes the US Federal Reserve would maintain its easy monetary stance amid not so encouraging signs of economic recovery.

The BSE Sensex rose 514 points, or 0.9 per cent, to end at 57,852, while the Nifty rose 158 points, or 0.92 per cent, to finish at 17,234. Both indices added nearly 9 per cent each in August, their best monthly showing since November.

HDFC Life Ltd will acquire Exide Industries Ltd's (EIL) entire stake in Exide Life Insurance Company for Rs 6,887 crore.

In a filing with BSE, EIL said its board has approved the divestment of the company's entire equity shareholding in Exide Life, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the company, by way of sale to HDFC Life. The deal is subject to the approval of its shareholders.

Tata Capital Financial Services, the unlisted subsidiary of Tata Capital, is planning to raise up to Rs 11,500 crore as debt to bolster its lending book that touched Rs 75,806 crore in FY21.

According to banking sources, the board of Tata Capital Financial Services will be meeting on September 6 to clear the issue. The fundraise by Tata Capital Financial Services comes within weeks of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata group, informing its shareholders that it plans to raise up to Rs 40,000 crore as debt in the coming months.

Famous television and film actor Sidharth Shukla died on Thursday at Cooper Hospital in Mumbai. He was 40. It is learnt that Sidharth Shukla died of heart attack.

Sidharth was the winner of Bigg Boss Season 13 and he was best known for his role in TV show Balika Vadhu. He is survived by his mother and two sisters.

Odisha recorded its highest rainfall deficiency this monsoon in over two decades, the MeT Centre has said, amid fears that the dry spell could trigger a drought in the state.

Odisha received only 661.1 mm of rain between June 1 and August 31 this year against a normal of 935.8 mm, a deficiency of 29 per cent, the Meteorological Centre here said.

The buying interest at these counters can be attributed to expected rise in cement demand as per market analysts, post easing of localised curbs and monsoon.

Among individual stocks, UltraTech Cement hit a record high of Rs 7,931, up 2 per cent in intra-day trade. Ambuja Cements ( up 2 per cent at Rs 430.35) and ACC (up 2 per cent at Rs 2,469) too hit new highs, surpassing their previous highs recorded on August 4, 2021.

Shares of Kitex Garments hit the 10% upper circuit at Rs 164.10 on the BSE this morning after the company announced that Telegana government has approved its expansion plan.

The proposal submitted by Kitex Garments before Government of Telegana towards expansion plan has been approved, the company said in exchange filing. The Government order will be issued within a few days, it added.
