India reported an increase of 1,239 in active coronavirus cases to take its count to 22,416. The country is fifty-first among the most affected countries by active cases.

On June 4, it added 3,962 cases to take its total caseload to 43,172,547. And, with 26 new fatalities, its Covid-19 death toll reached 524,677, or 1.22 per cent of total confirmed infections.

The Punjab government request for a probe by a sitting high court judge into the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala has not been accepted, according to sources.

The sources said a communication in this regard has been sent to the state government by the court administration. The HC administration is learnt to have told the government that it cannot spare a judge.


The high court is short of 38 judges with a pendency of around 4.50 lakh cases.

India’s largest power generating company (genco) NTPC Limited has awarded multiple coal import contracts for 6.25 million tonne (MT) to Adani Enterprises at a cumulative value of Rs 6,585 crore. The state-owned genco is importing coal to meet the recent directive of the Ministry of Power to blend 10 per cent imported coal in order to tackle domestic coal shortage.

Tata Projects will build the national capital region’s new airport at Jewar, after outbidding the Shapoorji Pallonji Group and Larsen & Toubro for the contract. While the deal size has not been disclosed, sources pegged it at over Rs 6,000 crore.
