India's unemployment rate rose to 7.83% in April from 7.60% in March, data from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) showed on Sunday.

The urban unemployment rate rose to 9.22% in April from 8.28% the previous month, while the rural unemployment rate slipped to 7.18% from 7.29%, the data showed.

The global coronavirus caseload has topped 513.8 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 6.23 million and vaccinations to over 11.31 billion, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Monday morning, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 513,837,679 and 6,236,433, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered increased to 11,312,957,285.

Sangeeta Singh, a 1986 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer has been given additional charge of Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), after incumbent JB Mohapatra retired as the head of the direct taxes administration body on April 30.

Indian IT services provider Wipro said on Friday it expects pressure on margins to continue over the next two to three quarters due to higher employee-related costs as attrition spikes and travel opens up.


"We are seeing slightly lower margins than the range we have seen in the past. There are some salary increases planned and certainly we have to watch travel carefully," said Wipro's Chief Financial Officer Jatin Dalal in an interview.

Twenty-five years after the Connaught Place shootout, the Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Centre to grant a compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the sole survivor of the incident.

"A sum of Rs 15 lakh is awarded as compensation, which shall be paid along with simple interest at 8 per cent per annum, from the date of the incident till the date of payment," said Justice Prathibha M. Singh in the order dated April 26.
