Greater confidence of inflation aligning with target over 12 months: RBI

With recent prints of headline consumer price inflation remaining benign, there is greater confidence that it will converge to the target of 4 per cent over the 12-month horizon, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said in its annual report for 2024–25, released today.

While noting that the outlook for the Indian economy remains promising, the report said softer inflation and moderate growth warrant monetary policy to be growth supportive.

A federal court in the US on Wednesday (local time) blocked President Donald Trump from imposing 'sweeping' tariffs on imports citing an emergency-powers law.

A three-judge panel at the New York-based US Court of International Trade issued the ruling. The development comes after several lawsuits were filed against Trump, arguing that he has exceeded his authority, Associated Press reported

Sebi bans IndusInd Bank ex-CEO, 4 others from trading in securities market

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Wednesday barred former IndusInd Bank chief executive officer (CEO) Sumant Kathpalia and four other senior officials from trading in the securities market, following allegations of insider trading linked to an accounting discrepancy worth over ₹3,000 crore.

In an interim order issued on May 28, Sebi said that these individuals had traded in IndusInd Bank shares while being in possession of unpublished price sensitive information (UPSI), violating insider trading rules.

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran will step down as chairman and director of Tata Chemicals, effective May 29, 2025. The development was disclosed in a regulatory filing by the company.

Chandrasekaran, in a letter to the board, wrote, "I am writing to formally inform you of my decision to step down from my position as a director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tata Chemicals Limited w.e.f. 29th May, 2025. After careful evaluation of my current and future commitments, I have decided to step down from the Board. It has been a privilege to chair the Tata Chemicals board and I sincerely appreciate the support and collaboration during my tenure."

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition by investor Manu Rishi Gupta, upholding the delisting of ICICI Securities and clearing the way for its full merger with ICICI Bank. Gupta had challenged the share valuation process, claiming that the reverse book building (RBB) method could have secured a better price for shareholders, according to The Economic Times.

ICICI Securities was officially delisted in March 2024, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of its promoter, ICICI Bank.
