Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse has pleaded guilty to the charges that it helped its American clients evade taxes and agreed to pay a penalty of USD 2.6 billion to avoid prosecution.

The Swiss bank plea follows a years-long investigation by US law enforcement authorities that also produced indictments of eight Credit Suisse executives since 2011; two of them have pleaded guilty so far.

WASHINGTON: Calling India a "very important strategic partner", the US hopes that its "enduring partnership" with India will only grow under the new government led by Narendra Modi despite the flap over his visa.

MUMBAI: Gold demand in India declined by 26 per cent to 190.3 tonne during the January-March quarter due to higher import duties and supply curbs imposed by the government, the World Gold Council today said.

In the first quarter (Q1) of 2013, the gold demand in the country had logged in 257.5 tonne, according to WGC Gold Demand Trends report.
