Globally, about 5.5 million babies — nearly three million neonates and about 2.6 million stillbirths — die every year. In other words, every day, about 8,000 neonates are dying and the number of stillbirths is about 7,000. Stillbirths happen at about 28 weeks of gestation and also during labour. Babies who die during labour — just five minutes before birth — account for nearly half of all stillbirths.

A car with five passengers, including aspiring actor Faizal Nasser, son of veteran Tamil actor Nasser collided head on with a tanker lorry on the East Coast Road near Kalpakkam on Thursday morning. Three of them died on the spot, while the actor and his friend were taken to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

According to Kancheepuram police sources, the accident took place around 8 a.m. when the car deviated from its path, for reasons unknown, and collided head-on with the lorry. The car was smashed.

BEIJING: Amid its bitter spat with the US over cyber espionage, China has ordered cyber security vetting of major IT products and services for use by national security and public interest.

The vetting is aimed at preventing suppliers from taking advantage of their products to illegally control, disrupt or shut down their clients' systems, or to gather, store, process or use their clients' information, the State Internet Information Office announced here today, two days after US indicted five Chinese military officials for Cyber theft.

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is still considering to attend the swearing in ceremony of Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi and a final decision will be taken by the evening after consultations with the civil and military leaders, officials said on Thursday.
